Ben Kaye, who works as a senior engineering project manager at Birstall's VdotCOM Ltd, beat more than 130 candidates in order to go to work for the United Kingdom Antarctic Heritage Trust (UKAHT).
His home from November to March will be the trust's base at Port Lockroy at Goudier Island on the western side of the Antarctic Peninsula.
The job entails maintaining the trust's base and monitoring penguin populations and franking postcards at the world's most southerly post office.
He said: "I'm pretty excited but a little bit anxious, but I'm really looking forward to going out there.
"The landscape is beautiful and it's a great opportunity to go and do something completely different."
Good Luck Ben! We'll miss you. Give our regards to the penguins!
